The Center for Improving Value in Health Care Announces New Vice President of Strategic Initiatives

August 22, 2011 – DENVER – The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) has named Edie Sonn as vice president of strategic initiatives. Sonn, a Denver-area health policy, government relations and communications professional for the last 12 years, joins CIVHC’s executive team.

Sonn served for three years as the senior director of public affairs for the Colorado Medical Society (CMS) before joining CIVHC. Sonn directed government affairs at both the state and federal levels while managing numerous health policy initiatives for CMS. During her tenure, she shaped a groundbreaking patient safety initiative, led the organization's health care workforce development efforts, and was a key participant in CMS' payment and delivery system reform efforts. Prior to her work with CMS, Sonn spent five years as principal of Strategic Policy Communications, LLC, where she developed policy and communications strategies for Colorado’s Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform, Colorado SCHIP Coalition and the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence among others.

“Edie brings a wealth of experience and a broad range of skills consistent with CIVHC’s mission,” said Phil Kalin, president and CEO of CIVHC. “She is widely recognized by many of CIVHC’s stakeholders for her energy, passion and commitment to our work so will be able to hit the ground running. We are thrilled that she is joining the CIVHC team.”

In her new position, Sonn will implement CIVHC’s strategic initiatives. She will bring strategic and operational leadership to develop sound policy and build the collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders necessary to support CIVHC’s initiatives. “Working with CIVHC to align incentives in Colorado's health care system is a great privilege,” Sonn said. “I look forward to bringing my background in health policy, government relations and communications to help CIVHC achieve its vision.”
