Denver, August 11, 2016 – The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) and the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) announced the Colorado General Assembly’s renewal of $500,000 in funding designed to help organizations receive custom data from the Colorado All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD).

The scholarship program helps non-profits, researchers, and state agencies access claims data to inform projects that improve health, improve care and lower cost - the three pillars of the health care Triple Aim. Funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis to non-profits with net revenues of less than $5 million, researchers with budgets of less than $5 million and state agencies.

This is the third year that scholarship funds have been made available by the Colorado General Assembly and appropriated to HCPF for CO APCD scholarship use.

"The availability of this scholarship fund enabled us to have informed policy discussions with other stakeholders on what is happening in the Colorado market,” said Chet Seward, senior director, Division of Health Care Policy for the Colorado Medical Society (CMS). “CMS prides itself in a values-driven approach to advocacy and this valuable CO APCD scholarship helped to underscore the ‘data-driven’ nature of our commitment to innovation."

“The scholarship awarded from HCPF was key in launching important opioid research,” said Karsten Bartels, M.D., assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Colorado Denver.
