USE CASE: Assessing Costs Associated with Auto Injuries

Project Summary Auto accidents in Colorado involving injuries and medical treatment impose an enormous toll on the injured parties, insurers, and all Colorado residents through higher (medical/auto) premiums and tax liability.  Determining a reasonable fee for medical services and avoiding exorbitant medical costs is important for the benefit of all Colorado residents, payers, litigants and juries.  This Payer hoped to use a report from the CO APCD to assist all interested parties in determining a reasonable and customary fee for services.

Benefit to Colorado Findings from the Insurance Research Council’s (IRC) showed that medical expenses reported by auto injury claimants continue to increase faster than the rate of inflation in Colorado. The National Payer’s Project could benefit Coloradans by highlighting the high costs due to medical services and determining a reasonable fee for such services.
