Condition Prevalence

Health conditions like diabetes, asthma and cancer can prohibit Coloradans from leading healthy and active lives as well as be costly to treat. The percent of people with chronic health conditions across the state can vary significantly depending on geography, pointing to opportunities for communities to reduce disparities.

Considerations

  • This information is based on claims data for the vast majority of insured Coloradans, but does not reflect self-pay, the uninsured, some people covered by self-insured employer plans, or those covered under Federal programs like the VA, TRICARE, or Indian Health Services.
  • The prevalence of diseases described in this report might be different than percentages reported by other sources (e.g. CDPHE or CDC websites) due to two main reasons: 1) The population included in this report does not represent the totality of Coloradans (see above); 2) this report is based on record of specific diagnoses associated to health care services billed to a third party during the calendar year, as opposed to individuals’ self-report of having the disease ever in life.
